14 JulThe #1 Secret to Ending Your Website Shame

So you’ve built a website, or even just added products to a shop on Etsy or another platform. And then you look at it and wonder… why doesn’t it say what you want it to say? Why doesn’t is make your art look attractive? Why do you avoid sharing the link with people?

The answer doesn’t lie in some magical business course. No, your website shame is rather simple. You don’t know what you want it to look like or how to get there.

This is controversial, I know. People don’t like to copy or be copied. But I am a firm believer that in attempting to copy someone else, you inevitably churn out your own, unique work. It happens in art. And yes, it happens in websites.

So go find a website that makes you feel how you want customers to feel at your site. Go find a website that looks enticing and makes you want to buy. Go find a website that makes you want to share it with people!

And then start copying. Layout your site like theirs and use similar navigation buttons. But even go so far as to think about what inspires you about the way they photograph their items. Make that happen when you photograph yours. Yes, it’s hard work. But I promise you, there isn’t an easy way. There’s only hard work, especially in the beginning. Don’t lose hope, you’ll get there and it will be worth all the effort. Promise.

If you’re struggling, always always always drop me a note and we’ll talk it out. I want you to succeed beyond your wildest dreams.
